Remove All Flight Restrictions Between China and Vietnam

Information from the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam says that Chinese and foreign airlines can resume their flights under bilateral aviation agreements from January 8, 2023.

Specifically, on December 30, 2022, the General Administration of Civil Aviation of China (CAAC) sent a letter informing that CAAC issued a notice on “Measures to resume international flights” on December 28, 2022.

Accordingly, Chinese and foreign airlines can resume their flights under bilateral aviation agreements, namely temporarily lifting restrictions on air traffic of frequency as well as restrictions on the number of seats used on the flight from January 8, 2023.

Since January 8, 2023, Chinese and foreign airlines that have a license to operate passenger international flights can apply for the resumption of approved operations following the Winter  Flight Schedule 2019 by the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

The COVID-19 prevention policy in China has made the number of flights between Vietnam and China very limited, with only 2-4 flights per week.

Recently, on the occasion of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s visit to China, the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam requested the aviation authorities of China to reopen flights between the two countries as normal. The Chinese side has agreed to allow Vietnamese airlines to operate 15 flights to China per week and Chinese airlines to also operate 15 flights per week to Vietnam on the principle of equality.

Shortly after, airlines such as Vietnam Airlines, Bamboo Airways, and Vietjet quickly redeployed routes to China. Leaders of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam have just had a meeting with airlines to implement a plan to restore the Chinese market.
