Da Nang Welcomes a Surge of Domestic and International Flights for New Year and Tết 2026

According to Mr. Phan Kiều Hưng, Director of Da Nang International Airport, a total of 3,574 aircraft movements (take-offs and landings) are scheduled at Da Nang International Airport during the 2026 New Year holiday period.

Specifically, during the 2026 New Year holiday from 22 December 2025 to 4 January 2026 the airport is expected to handle 1,794 arrivals and 1,780 departures, representing an increase of 7.6% compared to the same period in 2025. Notably, the number of international arrivals during this period is projected to reach 62 flights, marking a nearly 13% increase year-on-year, compared to 55 international arrivals recorded last year.

Compared to regular days, the number of daily flights during the New Year holiday is expected to rise slightly by 14–16 additional movements, driven mainly by increased domestic services operated by Vietjet Air and Vietnam Airlines. Overall aviation activities at aircraft parking areas and passenger terminals are not expected to differ significantly from current daily operations.

During the Lunar New Year (Tết Nguyên Đán) Bính Ngọ 2026, Da Nang International Airport is forecast to handle 5,042 aircraft movements, reflecting a 37% increase compared to the 2025 Lunar New Year, which recorded 3,682 movements. This total includes 5,012 arrivals and 5,072 departures. Of particular significance, the airport is expected to welcome 1,210 international arrivals during this peak period, representing a 44% increase compared to the 2025 Lunar New Year (837 international flights).

According to the Lunar New Year 2026 flight schedule, traffic volumes during peak hours are projected to approach the designed capacity limits of both the domestic terminal (T1) and the international terminal (T2). Flight activity is anticipated to reach exceptionally high levels as airlines increase flight frequencies and several new carriers commence operations to and from Da Nang.

From 10 February to 24 February 2026, the airport is expected to handle an average of 343 aircraft movements per day, significantly higher than the average of 246 daily movements recorded during the same period in 2025. The number of wide-body aircraft operating at Da Nang International Airport is also set to increase, with 9–11 international flights per day and 2–4 domestic wide-body flights per day.

Mr. Phan Kiều Hưng further noted that Da Nang International Airport is currently carrying out maintenance, repair, and refurbishment works on airside infrastructure. These works are scheduled to be completed and put into operation by 30 December 2025. Runways, taxiways, and aprons are regularly inspected and maintained to ensure the highest standards of operational safety.

To support peak-period operations, the airport currently provides 57 aircraft parking positions, including 35 civil aviation stands, 3 stands at Military Apron No. 4, and 19 stands at Military Apron No. 8. Priority will be given to civil aviation stands, while Military Apron No. 4 and subsequently Military Apron No. 8 will be utilized in the event of capacity overload.

At present, the Domestic Terminal (T1) has a handling capacity of 2,700 passengers per hour, accommodating up to 15 flights for both departures and arrivals. The terminal is equipped with 52 check-in counters (including 2 oversized baggage counters) and 12 self-service check-in kiosks (Vietnam Airlines: 4; Vietjet Air: 4; Pacific Airlines: 4).

The International Terminal (T2) is designed to serve 1,800 passengers per hour, handling up to 10 flights for both departures and arrivals. Facilities include 63 check-in counters (44 Type 1 counters, 9 Type 2 counters), 10 self-service check-in kiosks, 6 self-service baggage drop counters, 20 immigration departure counters, and 4 customs clearance counters.

In preparation for the peak travel season, Da Nang International Airport has implemented traffic flow arrangements and designated parking areas to facilitate smooth cargo delivery and collection at the cargo terminal. The airport has also requested relevant stakeholders to increase staffing levels to support cargo handling during the Lunar New Year period. In addition, aviation security personnel will be deployed to coordinate traffic flow and guide passengers in parking and pick-up/drop-off areas, helping to minimize congestion during peak hours.
