Photography Exhibition “Portraits De Femmes”

On the occasion of the 112th anniversary of International Women’s Day – March 8, (March 8, 1910 – March 8, 2022), the Institut Français du Vietnam in Da Nang and the Danang Museum of Fine Arts jointly organize a photography exhibition “Portraits de Femmes/Portrait of Women” as an outstanding activity in the series of events about “Vietnamese women”. Works of 15 young photographers from Ho Chi Minh City and Hue are picked to see here.

The photos exhibited are the result of two photography workshops organized for three days by the Institut Français du Vietnam in Ho Chi Minh City and Hue in January 2020. 15 young artists had snapped photos about Vietnamese women under the guidance of photographers Maika Elan, Binh Dang and Nicolas Cornet.

These photos are the products of a successful teamwork process. The exhibition is not aimed at excellence in visual, but on the contrary, an opportunity for young artists to express themselves through a series of photos that when placed side by side will tell their own emotional stories, or in other words “storytelling”.

The young photographers also challenged themselves by handling the topic in a more contemporary way: thoughts on women, an intimate view of grandmother, or various roles of women in daily life. These young people bring a novel visual to the old topic, depicting broader and more interesting aspects instead of focusing on familiar manners.

  2. Chị Dậu – Photographer Nguyen Kim Nhi
  3. Lửng lơ – Photographer Nguyen Vinh Anh Khoa
