July 19, Da Nang International Airport has officially launched a biometric authentication system, allowing passengers to check in for domestic flights without presenting physical identification documents. Instead, travelers can now use Face ID verification through the VNeID application.
This cutting-edge technology is currently available for passengers flying domestically with Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet Air departing from Da Nang International Airport. By utilizing facial recognition integrated into the VNeID platform, travelers can complete their check-in process more quickly and conveniently than ever before.
How It Works
According to airport authorities, passengers wishing to use this biometric check-in service should follow these steps:
- Open the VNeID mobile application.
- Select: Other Services → Airline Procedures → Online Check-in.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.
Once the online check-in is complete, travelers proceed to the airport’s security checkpoint. Alternatively, passengers may register their facial data directly at designated check-in counters (counters 5, 6, and 28).
At the security area, travelers head to the biometric verification point located at Lane 3 of Terminal 1 (T1). There, they will be guided to stand on a marked position and face the camera for facial recognition.
If the system successfully verifies the identity, the gate will automatically open, allowing the passenger to proceed to the security screening zone.
Seamless Boarding with Face ID
The use of Face ID continues even at the boarding gate. When passengers arrive at the gate, the system performs another facial scan. Once verified, the boarding gate opens automatically—no physical contact with airport staff is required.
Important Notes for Passengers
To ensure a smooth experience with the VNeID-based check-in system, Da Nang International Airport advises passengers to:
- Upgrade their VNeID account to Level 2 electronic identification.
- Use the latest version of the VNeID mobile application (available to passengers aged 14 and older).
- Update the Vietnam Airlines or Vietjet Air mobile apps to the newest versions for seamless verification.
As a precaution, passengers are still advised to carry valid identification documents such as a Citizen ID card or passport in case of technical issues with the biometric system.
Expanding the Future of Travel
Da Nang International Airport has confirmed plans to continue expanding and optimizing the biometric system in the near future. This move aims to enhance passenger experience, reduce wait times, and lead the way in smart airport innovation across Vietnam.
