Da Nang to manage Son Cha islet and Southern Hai Van mountain

On September 11, the Office of the Government issued a statement summarizing the conclusions of Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh regarding the administrative boundary determination between Thua Thien Hue province and Da Nang city. According to the decision, Da Nang city will oversee the management of Son Cha islet and the southern area of Hai Van Mountain.

The statement clearly outlined that under the 2024 Land Law, the determination of administrative boundaries between Da Nang city and Thua Thien Hue province falls under the authority of the Government. Based on the proposal from the Ministry of Home Affairs and input from representatives, the Appraisal Council has agreed with the Ministry’s proposal, confirming that Thua Thien Hue province will manage the northern area of Hai Van Mountain, while Da Nang city will manage Son Cha islet and the southern area of Hai Van Mountain.

The Ministry of Home Affairs, in coordination with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, other relevant ministries, agencies, and local authorities, is tasked with promptly submitting to the Government a resolution on the administrative boundary determination between Thua Thien Hue province and Da Nang city.

Additionally, the Office of the Government has notified relevant ministries, central agencies, the People’s Committees of Thua Thien Hue province and Da Nang city, and other concerned parties for their information and implementation.

Son Cha islet, also known as Little Son Cha Island, is located at the foot of the southern Hai Van Mountain, near Son Tra Peninsula, Da Nang city. The issue of which locality would manage Son Cha islet has been unresolved for many years. Assigning it to a specific locality will contribute to better marine conservation in the area and allow for the economic potential to be more effectively leveraged.
