“In 1965-1967 I was still attending a university in California, and did not arrive in Danang until July 1968 and I was sent, west of Danang near Dai Loc.”
“U.S. Marines arrived at Red Beach on March 8, 1965 and their assignment was to provide security for the Danang Airbase. School girls with flowers met the Marines at Red Beach. A few months later the U.S. Navy, made their Naval Component Command Headquarters, at what was called the “White Elephant” on Bach Danang Street. When the French were in Danang, the “White Elephant” was the headquarters for a French Bank.”
