Da Nang Party Committee’s Standing Board has agreed to the policy proposed by the Party Committee of the Da Nang City People’s Committee on hosting the Asian Development Tour (ADT) in 2022. It is expected to take place in the first two weeks of September.

According to a report by the People’s Committee of Da Nang City, the ADT is a part of professional golf tournaments in Asia – Asian Tour operated by the Asian Tour Organization. The ADT tournament system has been held annually since 2010 with at least 15 stages per year, mainly taking place in Asian countries such as Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, India, Pakistan, and Brunei. Because of the COVID-19 epidemic, this tournament was interrupted and has just returned from December 2021 with two golf tournaments in Thailand.

In 2022, the ADT is expected to have 19 tournaments held in Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Brunei, Malaysia, Indonesia, Pakistan, Taiwan, and Thailand. Asian Tour Organisation is currently choosing locations to organize in India, Singapore and Vietnam.

There are supposed to be some criteria for choosing a city to organize for the ADT. Firstly, it is a potential destination for international golf tourism development. Secondly, the city has to have a standard golfer system that meets the requirements of organizing professional tournaments and is convenient for moving on foot. Finally, the hosted golf course is nearby the world-class accommodation facilities and organizational space, and many famous tourist attractions.

It is expected that 144 professional golfers, including 120 professional golfers from Asia invited by Asian Tour, 20 professional golfers from Vietnam and up to 4 professional golfers or amateurs nominated by the sponsors, are going to take part in the tournament. The budget for a tournament might be up to 175,000 USD, of which the prize money is 75,000 USD.

According to Da Nang City People’s Committee, the ADT is a great opportunity to bring huge media value on a global scale. All exclusively produced TV programs for the tournament and the destination of Da Nang will be broadcast on 27 national and international sports TV channels, reaching more than 423 million viewers in Asia – the Pacific Ocean and 380 million viewers in other regions around the world.
