On the morning of February 10, the Department of Tourism, in collaboration with Da Nang Port Joint Stock Company, Border Guard of Da Nang Port, and Khang Huy Holiday Vietnam Limited Liability Company, welcomed the first international cruise ship for the Lunar New Year 2024 at Tien Sa Port named Dream Cruise, carrying nearly 2,000 Chinese tourists to Da Nang.
The 5-star luxury cruise ship Dream Cruise, with almost 2,000 tourists on board, arrived at Tien Sa Port for a two-day visit to Da Nang on February 9 and 10, 2024 (corresponding to the 30th day of the lunar calendar and the 1st day of the Lunar New Year, Year of the Wood Tiger). During their stay in Da Nang, the tourists explored popular attractions such as the historical site of Ngu Hanh Son, Linh Ung Pagoda on Son Tra Peninsula, and the Cham Sculpture Museum.
This marks the first international cruise ship arrival in Da Nang for the Lunar New Year 2024 celebration. The Dream Cruise is a luxurious 5-star cruise ship with dimensions of 261.31m in length, 32.25m in width, and a cruising speed of 22 nautical miles per hour. The ship boasts modern amenities across its 16 floors, featuring 1,008 rooms accommodating over 2,016 passengers.
Da Nang City is recognized as a convenient destination for international cruise lines due to its strategic location on the important maritime route in Asia. It aligns with the routes connecting sea tourism in the region and the world, attracting many international cruise companies.
“Cruise ship tourists are high-spending visitors and play a crucial role in the city’s tourism. Therefore, to attract cruise ship visitors, the tourism sector in Da Nang is actively promoting and diversifying products to meet the needs, preferences, and enhance the experiences of cruise ship tourists,” stated Mr. Tan Van Vuong, Deputy Director of the Department of Tourism.
In 2023, the city received 22 cruise ships with over 18,000 passengers. According to the itineraries of travel agencies operating cruise ship tours to Da Nang, it is expected that in 2024, there will be more than 45 cruise ship visits to Tien Sa Port, Da Nang, attracting over 50,000 passengers.
This positive signal indicates a promising new year for the tourism industry in Da Nang. With accumulated experience and well-equipped infrastructure ensuring quality, the tourism sector in Da Nang is prepared to welcome a large number of international cruise ship visitors in 2024.
During the Lunar New Year 2024, the total number of visitors to and tourists in Da Nang is expected to reach nearly 362,000, a 23% increase compared to the same period in 2023. This includes an estimated 172,000 international visitors and 190,000 domestic visitors.
