On the morning of September 24, 2024, Malaysia Airlines flight MH748 from Kuala Lumpur landing at Da Nang International Airport at 10:25 a.m., marking the official launch of the airline’s new route to the city. The flight carried 154 passengers eager to explore the vibrant and scenic destination of Da Nang.
A welcome ceremony for Malaysia Airlines’ inaugural flight was held at the International Arrivals Terminal of Da Nang International Airport, attended by key figures including representatives from the Department of Tourism, the Central Airport Authority, Da Nang Port, and Da Nang International Airport. Also present were officials from Da Nang International Terminal Investment and Operation Joint Stock Company, the City Tourism Association, the Da Nang Tourism Development Promotion Fund, Malaysia Airlines representatives, and local media.
As part of the ceremony, guests and passengers were greeted with a water cannon salute, followed by a vibrant cultural performance. The first passengers to arrive on this new route were presented with flowers, gifts, and the opportunity for souvenir photos to commemorate the occasion. Malaysia Airlines will operate the Kuala Lumpur – Da Nang route seven times per week using Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
Mr. Tan Van Vuong, Deputy Director of the Da Nang Department of Tourism, remarked: “Malaysia consistently ranks among the top 10 international markets visiting Da Nang. In August 2024, the city’s leadership team visited Malaysia and engaged with Malaysia Airlines to strengthen tourism promotion efforts, including the launch of the Kuala Lumpur – Da Nang flight. Moving forward, Da Nang’s tourism sector will continue to collaborate with Malaysia Airlines to organize familiarization trips, press trips, and influencer campaigns aimed at showcasing the city’s tourism offerings and enhancing its appeal to Malaysian visitors.”
Ahmad Luqman Mohd Azmi, Chief Executive Officer of Airlines at Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), expressed his excitement about the new route, stating: “We are thrilled to have launched our inaugural flight to Da Nang, achieving an impressive 90% load factor, which demonstrates the strong demand for travel to this beautiful city. This route represents a key milestone in our efforts to be the airline of choice, not just for travel within the region, but globally. By adding Da Nang as our third destination in Vietnam, we enhance connectivity while offering passengers the opportunity to experience the city’s natural beauty and rich cultural heritage, further solidifying our role as a gateway to Asia and beyond.”
